Performance Testing
In order to train smart you need accurate physiological data to guide and monitor your progress. Lactate threshold, VLaMax and VO2Max are important performance markers that provide insight into your metabolic profile. We provide several tests in the lab, out in the field or in your home on turbo trainer.

In order to train smart you need accurate physiological data to guide and monitor your progress. Lactate threshold, VLaMax and VO2Max are important performance markers that provide insight into your metabolic profile. We provide several tests in the lab, out in the field on your favorite roads or at home on a turbo trainer. Start training smarter and book a performance test today.

Types of Performance Testing
We offer different types of performance testing ranging from a simple maximal lactate steady state test all the way to an INSCYD PPD test with a complete metabolic profile. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions!
INSCYD
The ultimate performance test used by the likes of Team Jumbo-Visma, Mathieu van der Poel and Jan Frodeno. Most complete insight in your metabolic capacities.
INSCYD PPD
The Power Performance Decoder allows you to run a test at home on your turbo trainer or in the field. We send you the protocol, you send us your .FIT file.
MLSS
Maximal Lactate Steady State tests have been the industry standard for years, measuring lactate levels to determine your Aerobic and Anaerobic Threshold (=FTP).
Onsite Testing
We also provide onsite testing outside of our lab at a location of your choice. Whether at your home or at a training camp with the team. INSCYD or MLSS testing, let us know!
INSCYD performance testing provides a complete metabolic profile. An MLSS test, on the other hand, analyses your anaerobic threshold in combination with your fatty acid and carbohydrate combustion. INSCYD goes further by analyzing your VO2MAX, VLaMAX, lactate production and recovery, FatMAX, and CarbMAX. Both provide valuable metrics and insights to adapt your training plans and goals.
Big names like Jan Frodeno, Mathieu van der Poel, Jumbo Visma, and Bora Hansgrohe, to name a few, are using INSCYD and so can you. Get started and book your INSCYD Performance Test today or scroll down and read more about the different metrics below.
Features and Benefits of Performance Testing
Have a look at the different performance testing flavors we have to offer. The INSCYD PPD is a protocol you can do at home. As long as you have a power meter, you can send us the .fit file and we can discuss the results in a (video) call. Still, have questions? Don’t hesitate to contact us.
VLa max
VLa max or maximal lactate building rate is a measure for the maximal production rate of lactate. Lactate is an end product of glycolysis, the breakdown of carbohydrates. Lactate accumulation causes a decrease in the pH value and directly inhibits the energy production of a muscle cell. A higher VLa max results in a lower Anaerobic Threshold (FTP). A lower VLa max on the other hand can inhibit your ability to cope with accelerations during a race. VLa max is the key metric to adapt your training plan to.

VO2 max
VO2 max is a measure of aerobic capacity. In other words, the maximal uptake of oxygen by the muscles. There is a strong correlation between VO2 max and mitochondria: the main energy suppliers of muscle cells. Mitochondria are responsible for using fatty acids and lactate with oxygen to produce energy. Therefore VO2 max is also a measure of your fat burning capacity, a critical metric for endurance performance.
Cameron Wurf’s VO2 max is reported to be around 80 ml/min/kg as tested by Sebastian Weber, co-founder of INSCYD. Take a peek at Wurf’s INSCYD report.

Anaerobic Threshold
Value for critical power, the power you can sustain for a very long time. At this threshold, lactate production and consumption are equal. Lactate is being produced as a product of breaking down carbohydrates by the anaerobic system and the aerobic system is consuming lactate as an energy source. Many athletes refer to the anaerobic threshold as FTP.
Matthieu van der Poel also uses INSCYD and is reported to have an Anaerobic Threshold greater than 460W. Check the article “The Natural” for a great read about van der Poel’s young cycling career.
